Retail Packaging Tip — How Stick Pack Pouches Are Sticking Profits Into The Beverage Industry

For years, European and Asian manufacturers have been using stick packs with much success. However, it has only been in recent years that North American makers of consumer goods have begun to accept them as a viable packaging option.

There is no question that the consumer market is saturated with competition on all levels, and it is becoming increasingly difficult for manufacturers to make their products stand out on retailers’ shelves. For this reason, many have looked to the packaging industry to help give their products a new look, and a new means of appealing to consumers.

Stick Pack Pouches are typically made from a high quality plastic film and are used to house things like sweeteners, instant teas and beverages, vitamin powders, and a variety of other powdered products. Packaging insiders agree that stick pack packaging typically is best for single-use or sample applications.

The packs are also becoming extremely popular with on-the-go applications, particularly with the beverage industry, which is employing the packaging method for its single-serve powdered beverage concentrates. Stick packs that contain powdered beverage mixes can be taken anywhere, and can easily and quickly transform any regular bottle of water into a flavored beverage with just one pouch.

Most packs are equipped with an easy-tear notch, and because they are elongated and slender, they can be poured into the small opening of a water bottle without spilling. Since bottled water already makes up a large majority of the beverage market, stick packs that contain concentrated beverage flavors are in an excellent position to succeed once they catch on amongst consumers.

Currently, most beverage stick packages are sold in multi-packs. In addition, many hotels, airports and convenience store offer individual packs for single applications. As more and more manufacturers of powdered beverages begin to market stick packs for the single-serving needs of consumers that are on-the-go, there’s no telling how much of a boost they’ll be “sticking” into their bottom lines!
