Google Docs – An Essential Blogging Tool?

In managing my blog tools that rely on Google Docs. In this article I will explain in an introduction to Google Docs and its benefits for running a blog.

What is Google Docs?

Google Docs is best summarized as a completely web-based, simplified, free version of Microsoft Office. Provides basic functions like word processing, spreadsheets and presentations. The fact is that there is an online service, there are a number of advantages, but there areone or two disadvantages you need to be aware of.

Based on Web Service

The fact that Google Docs is an online service has a big advantage, you can create a working document from anywhere you have an Internet connection and a browser. This is more convenient than it sounds. For example, I have several computers and with Open Office, perhaps to create a Word-compatible documents, for example, my desktop computer. If I click on the path that does not have access to this document from my laptopdocument might still be on my desktop computer’s hard-drive.

There are ways to transfer between computers, and one technique I used in the past was to email the document to Hotmail. This ensured that I could access the document from any of my computers and it was backed-up by Microsoft. This wasn’t convenient though as I ended up having several versions of the document on different computers and keeping track of the current version proved difficult. Google Docs solves this problem as all The documents you create are hosted by Google. You can save documents from any computer that has a browser and Internet connection.

Document import and export

One of the most interesting features of Google Docs is the ability to import existing documents or documents as Word documents, OpenOffice. This means that if existing documents are documents that can be easily imported into your Google Account. The interface lets you see all your files at onceThey also organize documents in folders with labels. This is similar to how Gmail works. In addition to importing existing Word documents, Excel spreadsheets and PowerPoint presentations, you can also export documents in various formats. For example, you can export a Google document format PDF, Word or Open Office XML. The ability to export PDF documents in a particularly useful for those creating information products. This also provides an adequatebackup system, such as Google (unlikely), you can have different versions of documents stored locally or on another server in a convenient format disappears.

You can simply publish all documents on the Web

At the click of a button you can publish a document in Google Docs on the Web. By default, documents are confidential and secure planned (as was), but the issue of the document is the document through a Google URL to make it available. You can then e-mail or otherrequired to publish the URL of your site. Also, if you update the document in Google Docs will automatically be re-edited the document when you need it. This means that you can use Google Docs as a basic Content Management System (CMS). This is especially nice, like, because the documents are hosted by Google, the documents consume zero space and bandwidth on your hosting provider!

Integrated with Blogger

When working on a Blogger blog you want to beLove Google Docs. Google Docs is fully integrated with Blogger – You can write and edit documents with Google Docs and then on a blog of your choice (if you maintain multiple blogs) in just a few clicks. There are a few niggles bit 'with this – the title of the document is currently not transfer correctly, so go to Blogger and add the title to have. But beyond that very well. This is useful when you create a longer post, you can reuse on other pages. For example, you may want to generate a PDF e-mail, and publish the same post to multiple blogs. Google Docs, you can easily do.

Google Docs with other blogs

Google Docs also works well with other blogs or even your site. Google Docs now integrated with Blogware, LiveJournal, WordPress, Blog Harbour Square and space. There are also options to post directly on your server (although I have not tested this).

SimplyInterface

Google Docs offers a beautiful environment in which to write, check spelling and check your articles before publication.

Google Docs is as easy as it is. Once you've created your Google account – you do not already have one – Documents will appear in your list of service account from Google. From the list, you can service services like Docs, Gmail, Blogger and Picasa to access with one click.

The built-in spell checker in Google Docs is very useful andsimple. Click "Check spelling" link and any errors are highlighted in yellow. You can also get with the right mouse button on a clerical error, a list of suggested spellings.

Google Docs also sports a Wiki-like "Revisions" tab. Clicking the tab displays the versions of the document that are created by the AutoRecover feature of Google Doc's. You can easily fall back to earlier versions, you should so desire.

Spreadsheets and presentations

I can now all myPersonal finance through Google Docs. I used to keep my finances in an Excel spreadsheet – I just imported the Excel-docs in Google Docs & Spreadsheets – a process that lasted a few seconds. Now I can check or update my finances from any computer, anywhere in the world.

I played a bit 'with the presentation of investment in Google Docs. You can easily create a beautiful presentation, with the help of the templates provided. Again, you can access the Internet and the integrated interface, the user sees, you can publishclick through the presentation or just watch the presentation as an automated slide show (they can modify timing and so on as required).

Why should a blogger care about this? If your blog features charts, spreadsheets or presentations then you can simply link to a web published version of the document. It’s also possible to use more traditional methods like copy and paste!

Disadvantages

The main disadvantage of Google Docs is that you can only access your documents if You can access the Internet. At worst, if he knew he would without Internet access, you can export your laptop into a document on its territory to work on it, and then import back into Google Docs if you have access to the Internet.

It 'important to remember also that Google Docs is not Microsoft Office, and not all the functionality that Office offers. For example, automatic generation of table of contents does not seem to be supported (though you may havelinks and bookmarks to help navigate).

Summary

I would say I am addicted to Google Docs and find it to be an essential part of running my blog – it is one of the main reasons I use Blogger. It is convenient, easy to use and being able to store your documents (and publish them) on the web is a huge advantage. I no longer have to transfer documents between computers or worry about issues such as versioning. It is very easy to be able to export the documents to a local PDF files. So far I found Google Docs to be invaluable.
