LIVE NUDE GIRLS UNITE – Format: [DVD Movie]

LIVE NUDE GIRLS UNITE – Format: [DVD Movie] Review

Special price available at Amazon

While what consenting adults do is their own business, one would think a woman would strip for a living only because the money’s good. But as the documentary LIVE NUDE GIRLS UNITE tells it, the pay isn’t as fair as one might think and the working conditions don’t make up for it. Maybe the paycheck still beats office work’s but at a San Francisco club called the Lusty Lady, knowing they are worth better salary and benefits, the strippers unionize.

Even though LIVE NUDE GIRLS UNITE came out in 2000 and won an award at the time, I see I am only the sixth person to review it on this web site. Perhaps its subject matter denied this documentary the shelf life others get in video rental stores and on cable television, but the film’s story of nude dancers demanding their rights proves as compelling as, to name a better-known labor film, NORMA RAE. In fact, LIVE NUDE GIRLS UNITE started a little slow for me, as watching guys watch naked girls does not interest me. But as the film moves along and we realize these women feel more vulnerable facing unjust management than they do standing undressed before strangers – and see them start to fight back – LIVE NUDE GIRLS UNITE holds your attention.

LIVE NUDE GIRLS UNITE addresses the split among feminists on girlie shows, as some see it as consenting adult behavior, others as objectification of women. The argument moves from theory to reality as famed woman’s advocate Dr. Joyce Wallace learns her daughter is a Lusty Lady dancer and former dominatrix, putting Dr. Wallace’s feminist mettle to the test.

One thing I don’t understand is the Lusty Lady performers referring to themselves as “sex workers,” which I thought was another term for prostitute. The strippers don’t have any contact with the men, let alone sexual. LIVE NUDE GIRLS UNITE alludes to Lusty Lady customers masturbating while they watch but if that makes the stripper a sex worker, then an actress doing a nude scene in an R-rated movie is, too.

Anyway, see LIVE NUDE GIRLS UNITE.

LIVE NUDE GIRLS UNITE – Format: [DVD Movie] Overview

Documents the attempt by exotic dancers to form a union when they are faced with no sick leave, discrimination, privacy concerns and more at the Lusty

The Order

The Order Review

Special price available at Amazon

I just saw this movie tonight. It took me a while to finally watch it due to the bad reviews it was getting. I figured it wasn’t worth the time.

This movie is great. All actors did awesome. A review said that Shannyn S did poorly b/c the reviewer said they ‘didn’t know if she was really trying to get in the role or if she was just too tired to care…’
I’ve seen her in other movies, she’s a great actress so I believe she was doing a great job actually being the role.
I have a brother that consistently gets migraines which sounds close to what she had with her headaches. When you have headaches that constant, all you are is a zombie (a very tired & slow moving/acting individual… tired). She played a really important and challenging role & played it well by making sure to act the part of a person that has a migraine, spiritual & emotional problems.

The other actors did great also, the story was excellent & the film’s location was very cool.
This movie is really under rated, probably b/c its unexpectedly slow moving. From what I remember, the commercials that were out when this was in the theater made it look like Exorcist which is pretty fast moving for a horror movie. This is not near as fast moving as Exorcist, its not as scary but its just as good.

If you want to compare its ‘level of horror’ to other movies, I’d compare it to Stigmata, Stir of Echoes or The Seventh Sign. Those are all good like this one, but not really horror…

The Order Overview

Alex Bernier (Heath Ledger) is a member of an arcane order of priests who is sent to Rome to investigate the mysterious death of the head of this order. The body may be of a Sin Eater, a renegade who offers absolution, last rites and therefore a path to heaven outside the jurisdiction of the church. Alex enlists the aid of his old comrade Father Thomas and of a troubled artist (Shannyn Sossamon) upon whom he once performed an exorcism. He soon finds himself plunged directly into the face of unimaginable evil, murder, and ultimately, a fate worse than death. The Order will find you!

The Order Specifications

Writer-director Brian Helgeland tried something different with The Order, and surely that counts for something. This brooding supernatural thriller was immediately dismissed by critics, and it’s easy to see why it flopped: it’s full of solemn, quasi-religious ruminations, it’s murky in both visual and thematic content, and it demands the viewer’s focused attention, which amounts to pissing in the shallow pool of big-studio filmmaking. And yet those qualities also give The Order some modest cult potential, as it tells the story of Alex (Heath Ledger, star of Helgeland’s A Knight’s Tale), a rebellious priest from an arcane fringe of Catholicism, who investigates the death of his excommunicated mentor and discovers the existence of a modern day “sin eater,” capable of cleansing souls of evil, who has chosen Alex as his would-be successor. A troubled love interest (Knight’s Tale costar Shannyn Sossamon) and an evil cardinal (Peter Weller) offer hope and damnation, respectively, but it’s up to individual viewers to decide if The Order offers anything of lasting interest. –Jeff Shannon

Structural Dynamics of Electronic and Photonic Systems

Structural Dynamics of Electronic and Photonic Systems Review

Special price available at Amazon

Structural Dynamics of Electronic and Photonic Systems Overview

The proposed book will offer comprehensive and versatile methodologies and recommendations on how to determine dynamic characteristics of typical micro- and opto-electronic structural elements (printed circuit boards, solder joints, heavy devices, etc.) and how to design a viable and reliable structure that would be able to withstand high-level dynamic loading. Particular attention will be given to portable devices and systems designed for operation in harsh environments (such as automotive, aerospace, military, etc.)  In-depth discussion from a mechanical engineer’s viewpoint will be conducted to the key components’ level as well as the whole device level. Both theoretical (analytical and computer-aided) and experimental methods of analysis will be addressed. The authors will identify how the failure control parameters (e.g. displacement, strain and stress) of the vulnerable components may be affected by the external vibration or shock loading, as well as by the internal parameters of the infrastructure of the device. Guidelines for material selection, effective protection and test methods will be developed for engineering practice.

Big Fat Liar (Full Screen Edition)

Big Fat Liar (Full Screen Edition) Review

Special price available at Amazon

As far as kids movies are concerned, there are few better than this one. I’m not usually one to gush over these kinds of movies, but this one keeps me entertained (sure, in a cheesy kind of way) each and every time I watch it. Each gag, each joke, each scene is just fun and exciting.

Yeah, I like this one; a lot.

The films premise is pretty cool too. Jason is a young kid of fourteen who has an issue with lying (what kid doesn’t), and his bad behavior has landed him in some trouble. Jason is the definition of the `boy who cried wolf’, and so when he actually tells the truth (that his essay was stolen by a movie mogul who is now plagiarizing by turning his story into a major motion picture) no one believes him; except his best friend Kaylee (but she may not even `really’ believe him). When opportunity arises (as it often does in these films), Jason and Kaylee make their way to Hollywood in order to expose this creep and earn the trust of Jason’s parents.

The whole idea of young kids using their imaginations to create something excites me, because I was once that kid, dreaming of writing something so amazing it became a movie!

The acting here is very good for a film in this genre, and character actor Paul Giamatti is at the top of the pack. I mean, when is he NOT good (don’t answer that…I did see `Lady in the Water’, but he was far from the worst part of that mess)? I admit to never having ever seen an episode of `Malcolm in the Middle’, but I’ve seen a few of Frankie Muniz’s movies and I really think that for a child actor he is quite good (can you believe he’s not a child anymore?). Amanda Bynes is a gimmick, but she’s so incredibly enjoyable (I’ve said this before) and I heart her so I have nothing but praise for her here as well.

What makes the film pop though is the smart writing. This has been done before (you know, smart kids + stupid adults = war) but this feels new and fresh to me. Each gag feels surprising and what is cool about this is that it manages to impress with each viewing. I’ve seen this a few times and every time I see it I laugh and enjoy myself. In fact, this was on cable last night, and I watched it from start to finish.

It’s that much fun.

Big Fat Liar (Full Screen Edition) Overview

Get ready for big FAT laughs! Featuring Hollywood’s hottest teen stars, Frankie Muniz (Malcolm in the Middle) and Nickelodeon’s Amanda Bynes, Big Fat Liar is the hilarious revenge comedy filled with nonstop action and laugh-out-loud fun! Fourteen-year-old Jason Shepherd (Muniz) has a reputation for stretching the truth. So, when big-time Hollywood producer Marty Wolf (Paul Giamatti) steals his class paper and turns it into a smash hit movie, no one believes Jason’s latest tall tale! On a cross-country adventure to set the record straight, Jason and best friend Kaylee (Bynes) devise a high-tech plan to squeeze the truth out of Wolf through a series of outrageous pranks, crazy stunts and big laughs. It’s payback time – BIG TIME!

Big Fat Liar (Full Screen Edition) Specifications

Pitting kids against grown-ups has always been a reliable source of comedy, and Big Fat Liar indulges the “smart kid vs. dumb adult” fantasy with infectious enthusiasm. In this case it’s Frankie Muniz from TV’s Malcolm in the Middle, playing a Michigan eighth-grader whose penchant for lying results in parental scorn when he claims that a Hollywood movie mogul (ace character actor Paul Giamatti) has stolen the kid’s hastily written English essay and turned it into his upcoming summer blockbuster. The kid only wants to prove his honesty and recruits his girlfriend (spunky TV star Amanda Bynes) to beat the honcho on his Hollywood turf. Elaborate practical jokes and slapstick gags turn this kid stuff (scripted and produced by two former child stars) into an enjoyable send-up of Hollywood absurdity. When combined with Giamatti’s mastery of slow-burning megalomania, the show-biz in-jokes and Home Alone-style anarchy make this a harmless diversion for the young and young-at-heart. –Jeff Shannon
